The Office of Competitive Awards and Research (IUCARE) has designed a 2 credit course for which the primary objective is a complete application for a nationally-competitive award. Awards fund a wide range of activities such as conducting summer research with an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates or taking part in a summer institute in the UK. Students who successfully complete the course will have completed an application or be ready to apply for an award.
The course is COLL X 288, “Apply for Competitive Award,” and it is being offered during both 8 week sessions of spring 2015. Grades will be S/F and will be determined by assessment of three short written assignments and participation in classroom group activities. A list of the more recognizable and prestigious awards is available on the IUCARE page that lists awards administered by IU offices. Both 8 week sessions will meet MWF in Sycamore 003 from 1:15-2:15.
Paul Fogleman is an associate director in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and will be the instructor for the course. He has advised applicants from IU on applying for nationally-competitive awards for over 7 years including recipients of a number of prestigious student awards. If you are interested in taking the course, send him an email at firstname.lastname@example.org for permission.
