Volunteer Opportunity: work with local elementary students as part of IU Biology’s Outreach Program

The I.U. Biology Outreach Program is looking for undergraduates to share their knowledge and love of biology with small groups of enthusiastic kindergarteners.  This semester, we plan to bring biology lessons to 13 kindergarten classrooms at schools throughout Bloomington.  Each lesson involves hands-on explorations of biology using materials that we bring to the schools.

No  specific experience is necessary, as we will provide you with lesson plans and background information ahead of time. You should, however, enjoy working with excited children!

We ask each undergraduate volunteer to commit to five visits to the same kindergarten classroom over the course of the semester. Including transportation time, each classroom visit takes 2-3 hours. We can provide transportation to schools.

Please contact Laura Mojonnier (laumojon@indiana.edu) for a schedule of the times and dates of our planned classroom visits. We have opportunities to visit classrooms every day of the week, and are especially in need of  volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
