Get Research Experience Studying Perception of Communication Signals by ELECTRIC FISH!

The Smith Laboratory in the IU Department of Biology is recruiting talented and dedicated undergraduates to assist in a project studying the perception of electric communication signals in South American weakly electric fish (see the Smith Lab website for details about electric fish and their signals — http://www.indiana.edu/~efishlab/).

Students will learn to conduct experiments using an automated system that trains fish to detect and discriminate different types of electric communication signals. The goal of the project is to test how well fish can perceive communication signals from their own and other species in the presence of social noise.
