Sophomores and juniors: Are you doing research and have a 3.90 College GPA? Apply for the Goldwater Scholarship!

Students pursuing a science or math major with an overall College of Arts & Sciences GPA of 3.90 or higher should strongly consider applying for the prestigious 2018 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation awards. This is a very competitive national award.

Nominees must be current sophomores or juniors who intend to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. All nominees must be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or U.S. nationals.

The Goldwater Scholarship is for research-oriented students and is not awarded to pre-med students. Accordingly, applicants must be actively engaged in a research project and their research statements need to be both fully and carefully developed and comprehensible to a broad, well-educated, and scientifically-focused audience.

Students selected as Goldwater Scholars will receive $7,500 per year that can be applied to the costs of tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Sophomore scholarship recipients are eligible for two years of scholarship support; juniors recipients are eligible for one year of scholarship support.

The College of Arts and Sciences will conduct an internal competition and nominate up to four students to the national selection committee for consideration. Students who are interested in being nominated for a Goldwater Scholarship should complete a student profile and Goldwater pre-application at https://goldwater.scholarsapply.org/.

If the pre-application is accepted, the student will be invited to submit a full application to the internal competition, and their recommenders will receive an invitation from the Goldwater Campus Representative with instructions for writing and submitting a letter of recommendation. All full application materials should be submitted directly to the College selection committee at goldh2o@indiana.edu.

The deadline for submission of all materials for the internal competition is:

5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017
