Dear Students:

Undergraduates earning a declared major through the IUB Department of Biology (Biology, Biotechnology, and Microbiology) are invited to apply for our 2018-2019 scholarships and awards.  The following scholarships are being offered this year:

Blatchley Nature Study Club Scholarship ─ $500
Clark (Howard W. ) Scholarship ─ $750
Crowell (Sears) Scholarship for Undergraduates ─ up to $2,500
Eigenmann (Carl H. ) Scholarship ─ $750

The application deadline for these awards is Friday, February 16, 2018.  Faculty and postdoctoral fellow recommendations for these awards are also due on February 16.

Departmental Scholarships for DIRECT ADMIT Biology, Microbiology, and Biotechnology majors

To:  College of Arts and Sciences Direct Admit Students who have a declared major from in biology, biotechnology or microbiology:

Two departmental scholarships are being offered this year that are exclusively for our Direct Admit Students.  These are:

Barwe/Rexing Scholarship (https://biology.indiana.edu/student-portal/undergraduate/scholarships/barwe-rexing-requirements.html)
Eligibility:
– College of Arts and Sciences direct admit undergraduate students who have a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology (biology, biotechnology, microbiology).
– Must be at least be sophomores in the Fall 2018 Semester.
– Must have minimum grade point averages of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.
– Preference will be given to students from the following Indiana counties:  Dubois, Gibson, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick.

Award:  Minimum of $3,000 and might be renewable for two additional academic years, provided the recipient is in good academic standing and making progress toward the degree.

Sid Robinson Scholarship (https://biology.indiana.edu/student-portal/undergraduate/scholarships/robinson-requirements.html)
Eligibility:
– College of Arts and Sciences direct admit undergraduate students who have a declared major from the IUB Department of Biology (biology, biotechnology, microbiology).
– Must be at least sophomores in the Fall 2018 Semester.
– Must have minimum grade point averages of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Award:  $4,000 and might be renewable for two additional academic years, providing the recipient is in good academic standing and making progress toward the degree.

Externships for Summer 2018 in various locations – apply by February 28

Indiana Sustainability Development Program
The Indiana Sustainable Development Program is hiring for a wide range of summer 2018 sustainability externships in a number of sectors and locations. These new opportunities come as the ISDP is expanding its scope to the IUPUI campus, following a $213,500 gift from the McKinney Family Foundation. The ISDP aims to develop a statewide network of sustainability professionals, beginning with the training of early-career students.

Summer 2018 sustainability internships info session tomorrow, January 30!

Summer 2018 Internships Information Session
The Office of Sustainability is filling 11 paid positions for summer of 2018. Come to our information session to learn about these opportunities and ask questions! Food will be provided. The session is Tuesday, January 30 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the E-House, 704 E 10th St, Bloomington, IN 47408.

Students from all majors are welcome to apply. Internships pay $12/hr for undergrads and $15/hr for grad students. Applications and a letter of recommendation are due February 18 by midnight.
