Apply for the Paul E. Klinge Scholarship – 2017-18 Academic Year

This scholarship has been made available by gifts of the many friends and colleagues of Professor Paul Klinge (pronounced cling`-ee), a former Indiana University faculty member and administrator.  Professor Klinge served as Assistant to The President in the administrations of several Presidents, including President Herman B Wells.

Professor Klinge, previously a high school biology teacher, had a keen interest in furthering the career preparation of students planning to become science teachers and those entering careers in the scientific and health professions. For many years he directed programs at Indiana University dedicated to helping students as they explored science and science-related career opportunities.

Scholarships are offered in Professor Klinge’s memory for those planning to enter careers in the following areas.

Science Teaching

The Sciences

Health Professions

For Undergraduates

Eligibility:

  • Commitment to a career in science teaching, the scientific or health professions
  • Completion of the sophomore year at Indiana University, Bloomington, prior to the start of the Fall Semester 2017
  • Cumulative Indiana University GPA of 3.5 in all classes at the time of application

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic record; applicant’s personal statement; career purpose and potential; recommendations
  • Financial need will become a factor only in the event of a tie with another finalist
  • Receipt of a Klinge Scholarship will not disqualify the recipient from being eligible to apply for and receive a Klinge Scholarship the following year.

 

Awards:

  • Up to three scholarships will be awarded
  • Size may vary; up to five thousand dollars each
  • To be used for tuition, books, and room and board at the recipient’s discretion.

 

Deadline:

  • April 3, 2017. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

For Transition To Science Teaching (T-to-T) Students

Eligibility:

  • Commitment to enter the science teaching profession
  • Acceptance into the Transition to Teaching (T-to-T) Program through the Indiana University School of Education, Bloomington, at the time of application
  • Intent to enroll in the T-to-T Cohort

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic purpose
  • Previous academic and professional experience and achievement
  • Recommendations
  • Financial need

 

Awards:

  • Up to three scholarships will be awarded
  • Size may vary; up to five thousand dollars each
  • Will be deposited directly to the Bursar in two allotments; one for the fall semester and one for the spring semester.

 

Deadline:

  • April 3, 2017. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
